Shooting high speed sport for the past 10 years now has enabled me to pursue the sports and venues I like to participate in and thoroughly enjoy. Simply put, any form of racing gets the adrenaline going and the shutter clicking. The incredible concentration captured by the lens and the tactical positioning in racing, is what keeps me glued to this style of photography. Moto-X has always been an excellent shoot because of the quality of the people influencing it. All aspects of this sport from the first time rider's right on through to seasoned professionals have the same unparallel thrill of racing and accomplishment. BMX parallels Moto-X in just about every manner, with excellent sanctioning bodies and involved parents and families putting in a huge effort making it possible for race weekend to come together. For a lot of us, it is a get-away from the normal hustle bustle lifestyle we are involved in during the week. The family atmosphere and camaraderie that exists between racers and teams is unbelievable where anyone is willing to help a fellow rider compete on race day. Nothing makes me happier than getting a great shot of an up and coming rider that motivates or helps them move along in their chosen sport. Helping racers out with promotion and sponsorship through my images is encouraging and something I will continue to pursue. These kids need sponsorship for support and sponsors need to know the riders they're sponsoring are doing them justice by promoting their product on race day. Winter sport shooting for me involves snowmobile and Ice racing. We used to have a great sled racing circuit in BC that involved Hillclimb and Sno-X events. It's been a few years now since the BCSF sanctioned these events but there's rumor 2009 will bring in a new group that will get the ball rolling once again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. One other sport that winter brings on is Ice Racing. At the beginning of every year at Stake Lake (near Kamloops, BC) the GKMA puts on the BC Ice Racing Series. This sport is balls to the wall, full on hardcore racing on a frozen lake. A great spectator sport where the riders reach unbelievable speeds set out on an oval course. I would personally like to thank all the parents, families and volunteers that put their personal time into making amateur racing happen. It starts at the amateur level for everyone so please support your local track and get on out and do what you can for amateur racing in your community. |
